bleeding heart juice + the benefits of beets

by Dani on October 12, 2013

Ah the beet, so tasty, so good for you and so darn messy. Beets are a highly under-rated super food when in fact, they should be right up there with blueberries, turmeric and spirulina.

Beets contain high amounts of betalain, which give beets their red and yellow-orange colour. Betalains are phytonutrients and help to body to neutralize toxins and support the cell’s detoxification process by preventing these toxins from accumulating which can cause inflammation.

The below recipe is a great juice for helping detoxify the liver. Beets may help you to understand the health of your digestive tract…when you eliminate pink in your urine and poop, you’ll be able to see the transit time of the beets.

Beetroot juice has become increasingly popular for heart health. Why? Beetroot juice is high in nitrates (the naturally occurring kind), once consumed the body converts these nitrates into nitric acid. This compound helps enhance blood flow in the body, lower blood pressure and helps muscles use oxygen more efficiently.
